Oleg Sonnin was born in 1948 in Berlin, Germany. One of belarusian's most eminent orchestral composers. Studied at the Belarusian Academy of music with two coryphaeus of Russian composing tradition - composition and theory with N. Aladov and A. Bogatyriov from 1966 until 1974. He continued his studies with Alfred Schnittke in Moscow in 1980-81. His bright artistic individuality and personally independence could make it possible to him in those extremily "closed" years to organize the composers opposition group - BACM (Belarusian Association of contemporary Music in 1989 (from 1992- Belarusian Section of ISCM (International Society of contemporary music in Amsterdam). As a president he presented the interests of BACM at the General Assembly / World Music Days in Helsinki, Stockholm, Essen, Krarow. Among Sonnin's compositions are: ballet, 5 symphonies,3 concertos, 3 piano sonatas, trio-sonata, cantata, numerous vocal and instrumental compositions.
