composer's biography
Oleg Sonnin was born in 1948 in Berlin, Germany. One of belarusian's most eminent orchestral composers. Studied at the Belarusian Academy of music with two coryphaeus of Russian composing tradition - composition and theory with N. Aladov and A. Bogatyriov from 1966 until 1974. He continued his studies with Alfred Schnittke in Moscow in 1980-81. His bright artistic individuality and personally independence could make it possible to him in those extremily "closed" years to organize the composers opposition group - BACM (Belarusian Association of contemporary Music in 1989 (from 1992- Belarusian Section of ISCM (International Society of contemporary music in Amsterdam). As a president he presented the interests of BACM at the General Assembly / World Music Days in Helsinki, Stockholm, Essen, Krarow. Among Sonnin's compositions are: ballet, 5 symphonies,3 concertos, 3 piano sonatas, trio-sonata, cantata, numerous vocal and instrumental compositions.
